How to Have a Healthy and Well Holiday
In my last post in the Celebrating December Well series, I shared that meaning is what nourishes well-being. Like your holiday to-do list, you can check the boxes of what to do to be healthy, but that won't make you well. It's the meaning behind the doing that turns those activities into well-being.
There is a way out of that trying-to-get-through-the-holidays mindset It's not about trying to be positive, trying to keep all the traditions alive, or trying to make sure you get everything done. Those solutions can distance you from the present moment and what you know inside. As you may recall from the start of this Celebrating December Well series, trying to get somewhere else is the stress state, and trusting what you know inside is the well state.
If you want to stay healthy through the holidays, there is a way out of that trying-to-be-healthy stress-producing mindset. You don't need to try harder, get better equipment, find more time, or hire someone to keep you accountable. Those solutions cause more stress by keeping you from trusting what you know inside.
The solution to both holiday stress and trying-to-be-healthy stress is to put the meaning back into the doing. Studies show having a clear purpose can lead to less stress and greater whole-person well-being.
Meaning nourishes well-being. Well-being nourishes health.
The check-the-boxes approach to the holidays and to being healthy supports the stress state. A whole-person approach keeps you connected to what you know in your body and heart. That keeps the meaning in the doing, and that nourishes well-being, and that nourishes your health.
The beautiful thing is that including what you know in your whole person simplifies both the holidays and being healthy. Your body, brain, and heart are designed to work together. When each part is included in the doing, you are well now.
The bonus of practicing Being Well Now is as you Celebrate December Well, you are setting yourself up to start your new year's goals in the well state rather than the stress state.
For the next few days, I'll share simple reminders to pause to Be Well Now. I'll remind you to shift out of your head and back into your body and heart so your whole person can restore well-being.
In the last week of the year, I'll share tips to start your 2025 resolutions, goals, and habits in the well state, not the stress state.
Today, pause and congratulate yourself for all the big and small ways you are Celebrating December Well.
Share this with someone you know who wants to celebrate December in the Well State.
