Celebrating December Well: Eliminate Barriers and Be Well Now

Turn barriers into guides with mindfulness

Eliminate Barriers and Be Well Now

Being healthy has external measures like your blood pressure and your cholesterol. There are clear guidelines for how to fix these health issues so you can reduce disease risk and be healthy. The foundation of those guidelines is The Big Three; eat healthy, exercise regularly, and manage stress.

When we try to do these three things consistently though, we run into roadblocks. Pain, overwhelm, procrastination, fatigue, time, the list goes on and on. We can end up stuck in the trying-to-be-healthy state, seeing these factors as barriers getting in the way to achieving health.

On day two of our Celebrating December Well journey, we clarified that this trying state is the state of stress. These barriers keep us stuck because they are threats to our health. Our brain fights them and our body is ready to move, putting less energy into healing, growing, and learning. The opposite state of trying is trusting, or the state of trusting or in other words, being well.

Being well is only measured internally. You are the only one who knows if you are well. It is measured by how much you are trusting what you know inside as your guide. You are the only one who knows when your body is in pain, your brain is overwhelmed, and your energy is low. This trusting state is the state

Being well is the way to eliminate barriers to being healthy. Yes, eliminate them. How? By turning them into guides.

In my last post, I described how mindfulness is listening to your self-talk, emotions, and physical sensations with openness, curiosity, and kindness. When you listen to yourself in the same way you listen to a good friend, wanting to know what is going on for them right now, celebrating the joys, and empathizing with the challenges, you turn barriers into guides.

This week we will explore each of the most common barriers to being well and sticking with health habits. I will share how to transform them into guides so you can Be Well Now through the changing stressors and joys of the holidays and beyond.

Stay tuned for more tips on Celebrating December Well tomorrow.
